The Forgotten Mariner
Poesia pubblicata il 24/06/2017 | 540 letture
|With my ghost ship I navigated|
symmetrical diamonds of lost souls,
sucking in the conflagrant fire of a victorious crime.
My crew has eaten the butterflies of death
like a ruminant animal,
while they were listening to the mischievous laughter
coming from the abyssal waters.
As the ship goes up and down, groaning with pain,
baleful and threatening strains of violins
were flowing through our veins
- I tried to catch the thunderbird
that was flying above our heads.
Once the lips of the lightening kissed the stony figurehead,
it sprang to live and broke out its dagger,
stabbing it right through me,
stealing a piece of my withdrawn heart.
The floors were crying tears of red
my crew ran away like scared ants
my inward eye reflected infinite loops of deja vus
as the figurehead wanted to strike it out again.
Right before it could steal another piece of my heart,
I begged if it could spare me
and it promised that I will be,
if I can solve the riddle of the forgotten mariner.
While I tempted to figure out
who the forgotten mariner is,
I finally understood that the answer is me.
Trying to grab the rotten mast,
I fell in reverse,
eking out a miserable existence,
on the surface of these unpredictable seas.
I saw the thunderbird flying towards its home,
on the floor fell tears of mine,
remaining in utter solitude,
I observed its elegant shape in the rising sun.
As the figurehead returned to its place,
immobile once again,
I knew no one would remember me,
since I'm the forgotten man.
